Conclusion of InovHumRe project

The InovHumRe – Innovation in Humanitarian Response project, which lasted three years and involved cooperation between universities and NGOs from five countries, has ended. The project mobilized, in Portugal, Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and Instituto Marquês de Valle Flôr (IMVF); in Spain, the National University of Distance Education (UNED) and Magtel Foundation; in Türkiye, Hacettepe University, SHUDER and Sened Dernegi; in Brazil, the Getúlio Vargas Foundation and, in Colombia, the Icesi University.

At Iscte, the team was composed by the teachers Paulo Pedroso (coordinator), Joana Azevedo, Jorge Ferreira, Annelien Groten and Raquel Freitas.

The activities planned by InovHumRe – Innovation in Humanitarian Response were successfully implemented, as the results demonstrate:

  • Prospecting report (Outlook report), which contains the state of the art, methodologies and good practices with regard to participatory evaluation in the area of humanitarian action in each of the countries involved – Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Brazil and Colombia;
  • Design and implementation of a new curricular unit in Participatory Assessment in humanitarian action, developed in partnership between partner universities and project NGOs. It has already been taught at Iscte, UNED and Hacettepe University, becoming part of the universities’ training offer;
  • Creation of a YouTube channel that brings together a collection of videos created by project partners. It can be used by teachers, students and professionals, as an educational tool for learning and teaching Participatory Assessment in humanitarian action projects;
  • A Handbook, which condenses the knowledge acquired throughout the project, including practical examples and theoretical framework. It seeks to strengthen the culture of evaluation in the planning and implementation of social services in humanitarian contexts.

As an additional result, we highlight the signing of the Lisbon Declaration for the “Development of Social Service and Humanitarian Action in the 21st century”, between the consortium and the presidents of the three main international social service organizations – International Association of Schools of Social Work, International Council on Social Welfare, International Federation of Social Workers. It is a declaration that puts on the table the reinforcement of humanitarian aid, the improvement of the skills and abilities of social workers, the design of new training programs and the need to invest in participation and co-design as strategies to improve inclusion Social. The Declaration was signed on November 16, 2023, at Iscte, during the project’s final Conference.

Students, teachers, researchers, NGOs, humanitarian action professionals and civil society in general were involved in this project. The results are available for free use on the project website, on the “Results” page.
